In 2009 a small group of entrepreneurs got together and leveraged their experiences in the world of business and ended up creating a company that ultimately was the answer to a very simple question: How can lip balm be less boring. Lip balm is a staple in the everyday beauty routines of women around the country and the world. But unfortunately it was not very exciting to use. While some customers who enjoy investing in the beauty products that they use might find themselves getting excited about the launch of a new color of lipstick released by cosmetics company MAC or a new bronze developed by a company like Estee Lauder there probably were not very many beauty shoppers who found themselves feeling that way about lip balm, a beauty product that they probably use more than any other. When you looked at the majority of the lip balm that was on the market before 2009 it was probably very easy to see why. The way that most lip balms looked, were shaped and were designed to be used quite literally belonged in another century.
Evolution of Smooth, a new lip balm and skin care company that is known for its unique products, recognized this. As one of the company’s co-founders Jonathan Teller told business publication Fast Company magazine, the lip balm that most consumers could get at their local drugstore had product designs that had were basically the same ones they’d had when they first arrived on the marketplace 100 years ago. Teller and his co-founders Craig Dubitsky and Sanjiv Mehra saw that most companies in the lip balm business had left creativity by the wayside to chase things like price and they decided that they would fill the void that this left. They debuted their organic EOS lip balm packaged in spheres whose bright colors suggested the appearance of ripe fruit (they are called organic smooth spheres) and the products went on to be a huge hit. Today Evolution of Smooth is moving a million spheres of lip balm every week and so far they are showing signs of slowing down. Evolution of Smooth can be bought from a wide range of retailers such as Target, Walgreens, Wal-Mart, Amazon, Ulta and many more.
